Our Commitment to Safety and Inclusion
We put safety and dignity at the centre of everything we do. All volunteers and staff complete safeguarding and confidentiality training before interacting with service users.
We follow clear safeguarding procedures, including guidance on confidentiality, mandatory reporting, and escalation for anyone at risk. We also provide ongoing supervision and support for volunteers.
If you ever feel unsafe or have concerns about a volunteer or service, we take all reports seriously and will respond quickly and confidentially.
- Inclusion: Non-discrimination, reasonable adjustments available.
- Confidentiality: We collect minimal personal data and store it securely.
- Escalation: Immediate referral pathways for crisis or risk.
All volunteers must pass a background check where required and complete safeguarding training within their first month.

FAQs FOR VOLUNTEERS
What training will I receive?
You’ll attend a full introductory training (online) covering active listening, boundaries, safeguarding, and use of our digital tools. Additional role-specific training and ongoing supervision are provided.
Do I need previous experience?
No. Many roles are open to people new to volunteering — we provide the training you need. Some specialist roles (e.g., clinical supervision, therapy) require professional qualifications.
How many hours do I need to commit?
We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 3–4 hours per week for active peer-support roles, with flexible scheduling. Micro-volunteering and event-specific roles are also available.
Can I volunteer remotely?
Yes. Many roles (chat support, content, admin) can be done remotely. We also have in-person volunteer roles where you can meet people locally.
Will I get a certificate or reference?
Yes. After a minimum engagement period and completion of training, we offer a certificate of completion and can provide references on request.
What support is available if I find the role emotionally difficult?
We provide regular supervision, debrief sessions, and a mental health support allowance for volunteers. You’ll never be expected to manage a crisis alone — we have escalation procedures in place.
Is volunteering paid?
Volunteer roles are unpaid, though we reimburse reasonable expenses (travel, childcare) for approved activities. Paid roles are listed separately in Careers.
